Applying for Primary School Places - West Berkshire Council
Once you have a place and are looking forward to starting with us, the following information will be useful for you.

Initially, our Head of School and other staff visit the children in their current setting to observe and get to know them and to talk to their key person about the progress and needs of the children.

After that, the parents and the children are invited in to meet with the Head of School and Executive Head. This provides parents with the time to pass on any information about their child and is also an opportunity to learn how they can help prepare their child for school. They then visit the classroom and meet the class team.

In September, to ensure a smooth transition into school, we invite the children to attend school for one session during the first week back in September where there will be only 5 new pupils in class and the classroom staff will be able to get to know the children and vice versa.

During the first full week back, the children stay until 1pm and at the end of the week, we invite parents in to have lunch with their children.

The following week they are in school full time.
Although we appreciate this may be a tricky time to manage for you, it is absolutely in the children's best interests that we have this staggered start to their schooling. Even if your child has already attended full-time Nursery, it is a really tiring time for them and can be overwhelming. By ensuring they transition in when there are only a few children attending, means they get the absolutely best possible start to school.
